:54:00
and there was this whole fight scene...
:54:02
where they're trying to beat
the same versions of themselves...

:54:06
the mirror images of themselves.
:54:08
They couldn't do it, so they had to...
:54:10
double-team on two of their opposites.
:54:12
So Sinbad would get on to Marina...
:54:15
and Marina would get on to
the other Sinbad.

:54:18
It was quite an epic battle...
:54:21
but unfortunately...
:54:22
Then we just opted
for the edge of the world.

:54:25
We took the easy way out.
We'll just create the edge of the world.

:54:28
Those of you who are good observers
will wonder...

:54:30
why Eris pointed to a globe at the beginning
of the film and yet it's flat here.

:54:34
So we are accepting essays explaining that.
:54:36
It is all an illusion. That's what it is.
:54:39
Men, all hands to your posts!
Free all sheets! Wait for my command!

:54:43
These poor baffled sailors.
What on earth is the captain talking about?

:54:46
How will we pull this off?
:54:47
Just trust me.
:54:48
Pres was our animator
in charge of the rest of the crew...

:54:52
and so in scenes like this
where the crew are scrambling...

:54:55
and there's quick shots of them tying...
:54:57
it kept Pres busy for weeks.
:55:00
- Slack to all sheets!
- Aye, aye, Captain.

:55:02
Cut the fore and main trusses! Move!
:55:04
There's a great place for us
to develop some ideas...

:55:06
and lay out just...
:55:08
I remember sending a whole lot of coverage
down to Tom...

:55:11
and encouraging him
to choose the best bits...

:55:14
and then seeing the final cut.
I think he used everything of it.

:55:19
Fine-tuning and the editing here
works really great.

:55:23
The edge-of-the-world effect
was one of the first big CG effects...

:55:26
that was developed
by our 3D effects department...

:55:29
and the big challenge
was not just to convey...

:55:32
water going off the edge of the world...
:55:33
from the distant perspective of Sinbad
and his boat as they approach...

:55:37
but also to convey the spectacular updraft...
:55:39
which is going to carry the boat across
to the gateway afterwards.

:55:42
And they developed this really beautiful
sort of veil...

:55:46
of wind-whipped water that...
:55:48
We looked at the Bridal Veil Falls
from Yosemite...

:55:51
which pushes so much air down...
:55:53
that the falls actually flow upward
for part of it.

:55:57
There's a beautiful sail animation
just when the sails are slack...
